Sure, I sometimes stumble into a shawarma joint in the middle of the night — but it’s way better to make your own. You might not feel like it after a night out, but on a lazy Sunday it’s perfect! A bit of garlic sauce, pita bread, shawarma meat… and I’m good to go. Even better when it’s Livar, of course!

Ready-made shawarma, in other words: fine strips of pork in shawarma spices. Why go out for a shawarma sandwich? You can just as easily make it yourself.

Shawarma meat from LIVAR - Limburg Monastery Pig

This shawarma meat comes from the LIVAR pig, of which The Butchery is an official dealer. Quite something to be proud of because LIVAR is the only pork concept to have been awarded a 3* better life by the Animal Protection Society. You can taste the good provenance. 'Taste as a reward for good care' is the credo and that is really true. Livar meat is laced with fat, the flavor carrier of meat. Moreover, it has little weight loss during preparation, so the meat remains juicy and tender. Definitely an advantage with shawarma meat. Limburg Monastery pigs are on par with the best free-range pigs in Italy or Spain. You should really just taste that yourself.

How to Cook Shoarma?

Heat a knob of butter or oil over high heat. Once it’s hot, add the shoarma strips to the pan. Stir-fry the shoarma strips until they are cooked through and golden brown, about 5 minutes.
