What Is a Burger Bun?
A burger bun is another term for a hamburger bun, burger roll, or brioche burger bun. Simply put, it’s a bun designed to hold your burger. Burgers and buns are a fantastic combination—who doesn’t love a burger on a bun? Of course, you can put a hamburger on any type of bread: a soft roll, an Italian roll, or a brioche bun. At The Butchery, we offer brioche buns because they’re simply the best choice for a hamburger bun!
What Are the Best Hamburger Buns?
We don’t need much time to think about this—the brioche burger bun is our absolute favorite. We’ve tasted many buns, and you definitely don’t want a soggy bun once you place your hamburger on it. That’s not an issue with the brioche bun. Its slightly sweet flavor pairs perfectly with the taste of a grilled hamburger, and it toasts beautifully, preventing it from becoming soggy.
What Is a Brioche Bun?
The brioche bun originates from Normandy and is considered a luxurious Sunday bread. Luxurious? Absolutely. It’s not quite like a regular white roll; it’s somewhere between cake and bread. Sounds fancy, right? It’s a French bread that has been around for quite some time. Brioche buns are firm and flavorful, making them perfect for hamburgers.
How Do You Heat a Burger Bun?
Burger buns can be heated in multiple ways. First, make sure to thaw the buns properly by taking them out of the freezer and placing them in the refrigerator—preferably the day before. Regardless of your heating method, always slice the bun in half first. Then, place it on the grill, BBQ, or in a preheated oven (cut-side down). Keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn’t get too dark. Slicing the bun ensures it becomes nicely crispy and doesn’t turn soggy when you place your burger on it.
How Do You Build a Burger Bun?
There’s no golden rule for assembling a burger, but here are some tips. Start by spreading your bun with sauce and adding a layer of lettuce if desired. Then place the cooked burger on the bun and add your toppings (hence the name “toppings” ;)) before finishing with the top half of the bun. Remember, more ingredients aren’t always better—less is more. Sometimes, a simple burger with sauce, lettuce, a slice of cheese, and crispy bacon is all you need. And, of course, the burger itself.
How Big Are Burger Buns?
The size of burger buns may vary slightly, but they’re perfectly proportioned for hamburgers. Use mini buns for small burgers and medium-sized buns for standard burgers. The regular brioche bun has a diameter of around 10 centimeters. Planning to make mini burgers and need suitable buns? Consider bao buns!
What Are Bao Buns?
Bao buns originate from Asian cuisine and are steamed buns with a slightly sweet flavor. They’re often filled with meat like pork belly, duck, or chicken. You might know them as bapao buns sold in supermarkets, typically filled with chicken. The bao buns we offer are unfilled, so you can top them yourself with a burger, pork belly, or duck—the choice is yours! They’re also called steamed buns. You can order them and fill them yourself, or try our recipe for bapao buns with sausage if you want to make your own from scratch. Short on time? Simply order them online.
Bao Buns as Hamburger Buns
While you might think of traditional hamburger buns first, burgers also work well on bao buns. Add some Asian-inspired toppings and enjoy! Note that our bao buns are only available in small sizes, making them perfect for snacks, BBQ parties with various options, or gourmet meals.
Mini Hamburger Buns for Mini Burgers
Since we offer mini hamburgers, it’s only fitting to include mini brioche buns. Even better, they come in various trendy colors—yellow, red, black—perfect for serving! They’re a must-have for a burger tasting with friends and are great for gourmet meals too.
Recipes with Burger Buns
We’ve focused a lot on burger buns, but generally, meat on a bun is always a good idea. That’s why our recipe page features not only hamburger recipes but also options like bao buns with Wagyu tenderloin tips, sloppy pulled chicken on black brioche, or pork belly with pickled cucumber on mini buns.
