Pork belly - also known as buikspek - is becoming increasingly popular, and for good reason. It’s the perfect meat for a low and slow BBQ session, and any BBQ enthusiast has at least one great recipe for it. Pork belly can be used to create the most delicious dishes. The meat comes from - you guessed it - the belly of the pig and is eaten with or without the rind. Many restaurants nowadays have pork belly on their menu, for example, prepared with the characteristic five-spice seasoning. Pork belly and Asian cuisine are a perfect match, as are pork belly and slow cooking. BBQ Junkie made Asian-style pork belly on the BBQ, but there are, of course, countless ways to prepare pork belly. The best part is: whatever you don’t eat the same day can make a fantastic sandwich for lunch the next day. A true fan knows exactly what to do with pork belly: brining, seasoning, or rubbing with a good BBQ rub, and then slow cooking it on a smoker or kamado… Taking a whole day for it is definitely a good idea!

LIVAR, the well-known Limburg monastery pig with a 3*** Beter Leven certification - Ibérico, the famous Spanish pig - Mangalitza, the naturally raised wool pig from Zuidwolde… Each of these pig breeds has excellent meat qualities. Keep in mind that fatty meats like pork belly, as well as ribs from ‘fattier’ breeds like Ibérico, are slightly fattier than those from ‘normal’ breeds. Some people love it; others don’t. So if you want to buy pork belly, consider this carefully!

Ordering Pork Belly Online?

Curious about how to order pork belly online? It’s actually very simple. Choose your desired meat (breed, with/without rind, weight), place your order, and we will prepare it with care and ship it on the delivery date you choose. You will receive your pork belly shock frozen, meaning it is frozen super fresh within an hour to retain flavor, texture, and nutrients. It will arrive frozen. The Butchery delivers Monday to Friday throughout the Netherlands. If you order before 11:00 AM, you can have your meat at home the same evening (between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM). On average, your order takes about 7 hours from door to door and is packaged to ensure it arrives frozen. You can then store it in your freezer or let it thaw slowly in or even outside the fridge. Easy peasy!
