Loaded fries met pulled beef and wasabi mayo
A good dish can sometimes be so simple. It’s all about combining the right ingredients. With meat toppings, you can turn a fairly standard dish into something truly special. It’s no coincidence the Dutch “kapsalon” is famous. But loaded fries (or burgers, nachos, sausages—whatever you want to load) are super easy to make at home with exactly the ingredients you love. Robert van Dijk of @vurigekolen topped his fries with pulled beef, spring onion, crispy fried onion, wasabi mayo, and crispy chili oil. Perfect for lazy Sundays or “hangover days”.
How to make loaded fries
- Prepare the fries
Fry or bake the fries until golden brown and crispy according to the package instructions. Sprinkle immediately with a little salt. Fresh, oven, air fryer, or deep fryer: all are fine. - Heat the pulled beef
Warm the pulled beef in a small pan or microwave according to the instructions. Make sure it’s hot and juicy. Easy peasy! - Build it up
Divide the fries between two deep plates or bowls. Spoon the warm pulled beef over the top. - Add the toppings
Garnish with spring onion, crispy fried onions, a drizzle of wasabi mayonnaise, and a spoonful of crispy chili oil. Add extra mayo or chili oil to taste.
Make your own wasabi mayo
You can buy wasabi mayo ready-made, but it’s also easy to make at home—so you can set the heat exactly how you like it. Mix 3 tbsp mayonnaise with 1–2 tsp wasabi paste (to taste) and a squeeze of lemon juice and your mayo is ready.
