BBQ-Junkie's Beef Teriyaki Skewers

As passionate BBQ enthusiasts (absolutely!), we’ve been following BBQ-Junkie for quite some time now. In fact, we regularly supply him with premium meat packages that he creatively transforms into amazing dishes. It’s a joy to watch the passion he puts into crafting the finest BBQ recipes. Sometimes it’s all about high-end culinary delights, and other times, it’s lean and simple. Like these Beef Teriyaki Skewers. With the right ingredients, it’s a breeze to prepare. The secret? It’s all in the combination! And let’s be honest... a good beef skewer on the BBQ is always a winner. This time, with a Japanese twist!

Teriyaki Sauce

Love teriyaki sauce? Great news: making it yourself is a piece of cake. Combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, and honey in a small saucepan and bring to a gentle boil. Stay close to prevent burning. Let it simmer for a few minutes, then remove the pan from the heat. Pour the freshly made teriyaki sauce into a bowl and let it cool completely.

Next, cut the beef into 24 equal pieces and add them to the teriyaki sauce. Cover and let marinate for about 30 minutes. TIP: If you’re using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before grilling to prevent them from burning on the BBQ.

Grilling the Beef Skewers

Fire up the BBQ, aiming for direct heat at a temperature of 180°C. While it’s heating, trim the ends of the spring onions, and cut the sturdy white part into three equal pieces. Slice the green tops into thin rings.

Grab your skewers and marinated beef, and alternate threading 4 pieces of beef and 4 pieces of spring onion onto each skewer. Place them on the BBQ and grill for about 6 to 7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned all over (and slightly crispy, if possible!). Transfer the grilled skewers to a beautiful wooden board, drizzle extra teriyaki sauce over the top, and scatter the spring onion rings for garnish. If you happen to have sesame seeds in your pantry, sprinkle some on—they’re a great addition!

ENJOY!
