This BBQ steak comes from the widely praised Limburg Abbey Pig (Limburgs Kloostervarken). Tender and juicy, it’s cut from the front section of the rib. Livar is known for flavor as a reward for good care. Thanks to its high fat content and beautiful marbling, the LIVAR BBQ steak is bursting with flavor. Pork at its finest!

The Butchery is an official dealer of LIVAR – and that’s something to be proud of. LIVAR is the only pork brand in the Netherlands to be awarded 3 Better Life stars by the Dutch Animal Protection Society. And it shows – the meat has a truly distinctive flavor. The origin of the colorful LIVAR pigs lies at the Lilbosch Abbey in Echt, Limburg. There, the pigs are lovingly cared for by monks and can root around the monastery gardens and roll in the mud. Their diet consists of fresh, locally grown Limburg grains – and you can really taste the difference!

We’ve mentioned it briefly, but one of the main things that sets LIVAR pork apart is the way the animals are raised. They no longer all roam the abbey grounds, but they are raised on top-quality free-range farms. The standards required to carry the LIVAR label are strict. It’s no coincidence that organizations like the Animal Protection Society and Wakker Dier are enthusiastic about LIVAR pigs. LIVAR is constantly working to make its farms even more animal-friendly.

How do you prepare the LIVAR BBQ steak?

The name says it all: the BBQ steak is best enjoyed straight from the barbecue. The meat is already seasoned, so it's ready to go straight on the grill. Grill the BBQ steak on both sides until it reaches a core temperature of 64°C. Prefer it well done? Then aim for a core temperature above 70°C.
