How do you use BBQ rub?

How you use a BBQ rub depends on the type of preparation of your piece of meat. Are you going to grill a steak (for example rib-eye) immediately? Then you can apply the rub to the meat a few minutes before preparing it. However, if you are going for a large piece of meat and an indirect preparation, it is best to use the rub a few hours in advance.
