This meat skewer is made with tender pieces of pork, bacon and bell pepper, delivering a rich, full flavour and the perfect balance of savoury and juicy. It’s made with pork from the Limburg monastery pig, renowned for its characterful meat and responsible origin. Ideal for the barbecue, but just as delicious from the oven or grill pan.
WHAT IS A SHASLICK?
A shaslick is a traditional dish made up of alternating pieces of meat and vegetables on a skewer. In this version, we focus on simplicity and quality: LIVAR pork, bacon and bell pepper. No excess of ingredients, just the perfect balance of texture and flavour. The bacon between the meat keeps everything beautifully juicy and gives it that signature slightly crispy edge when grilled. Ideal for the barbecue, but also easy to prepare indoors.
THE LIMBURG MONASTERY PIG
For this shaslick we use LIVAR, the famous monastery pig from Limburg. These pigs live on and around the Lilbosch Abbey in Echt, where they have plenty of space to roam freely. They are fed locally grown grains and raised with care and attention by the monks. LIVAR is the only pork in the Netherlands awarded three stars by the Dutch Society for the Protection of Animals, and you can taste that in the flavour, texture and overall quality of the meat.

How to Prepare Shashliks
Shashliks taste best straight from the barbecue. Place them on a hot grill and turn them with tongs until they develop a nice color. They don’t need to be cooked all the way through — after all, they’re made from fricandeau (pork topside)...
